Woman arrested in connection to Decatur Street business burglary

A woman was arrested Tuesday in connection to a business burglary that occurred yesterday on Decatur Street.

Officers responded to a complaint of a business burglary in the 800 block of Decatur Street in the French Quarter on June 8, according to New Orleans Police.

Eighth District detectives determined through their investigation that Elizabeth Slaton, 36, entered the rear of the business and allegedly stole several items.

Detectives were able to positively identify Slaton and obtain an arrest warrant, the NOPD said.

Slaton was located at the NOPD’s 5th District station at 3900 North Claiborne Avenue and was taken into custody.

Slaton was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on suspicion of simple burglary of a business.

NOPD searching for suspected thief who stole copper gutters from buildings on St. Louis, St. Phillip streets

A suspected thief was captured on camera ripping pieces of copper gutters from buildings in the French Quarter early Friday morning, according to New Orleans Police.

The suspect allegedly struck two different locations in a matter of minutes, stealing copper gutters from the sides of buildings on St. Louis and St. Phillip streets, incidents that were captured on surveillance camera footage released by the NOPD on Tuesday.

The first incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday when the suspect was seen removing a copper gutter from a business in the 900 block of St. Louis Street.

Fifteen minutes later, the same person was seen again removing another copper gutter from the side of a building in the 600 block of St. Phillip Street.

Light scrap copper—which includes sheet copper, gutters and other unalloyed solids with at least 88% copper—fetches around $2 per pound in Louisiana, according to various indices.

Identity sought for man who allegedly punched sign, threw food at bar patrons and staff on Dauphine Street

New Orleans Police is asking the public to help locate and identify a man wanted in connection to an alleged Feb. 16 criminal damage incident that occurred on Dauphine Street.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. at a bar in the 400 block of Dauphine Street when an unidentified male reportedly threw food at patrons and staff, then punched a sign at the business, New Orleans Police said.

The man caused approximately $750 in damages, according to New Orleans Police.
