Bar Tonique, Black Penny reopen after shutting down due to COVID-19 restrictions

Two bars on North Rampart Street in the French Quarter have reopened earlier this month after shutting down due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Bar Tonique, Located at 820 N. Rampart St., reopened on Nov. 11. The bar’s hours are 3 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

To enter, the bar requires face coverings when moving around the bar and interacting with staff, physical distancing, limiting group size and no congregating around the bar to wait for an order. For more information, visit the bar’s website.

Black Penny, located at 700 N. Rampart St., announced Nov. 5 that it’s open for to-go drinks and some outside seating from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Boondock Saint reopening moved to Nov. 6 due to Hurricane Zeta; Restaurant R’evolucion reopens

French Quarter bars and restaurants continue to reopen after closing for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boondock Saint, located at 731 St. Peter St., originally planned to reopen on Oct. 30 for to-go drinks, but that date was moved to noon on Friday, Nov. 6 due to Hurricane Zeta.

Restaurant R’evolution, located 777 Bienville St. inside the the Royal Sonesta Hotel, reopened on Oct. 22.

The owners of Meauxbar, which was located at 942 N. Rampart St., announced last month the restaurant closed permanently due to the shutdowns that came as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

New Orleans is currently in “Phase 3.2” of reopening, which allows outdoor seating for bars. Indoor seating isn’t allowed yet for bars, although some bars have converted into restaurants after receiving state licenses in order to offer indoor dining.

700 Club’s American Townhouse coming to North Rampart Street

The 700 Club, formerly located on the corner of Burgundy and St. Peter streets, is opening a location on the edge of the French Quarter before the end of the year.

American Townhouse, located at 1012 N. Rampart St., is slated to open in the winter of 2020, according to an announcement on the club’s social media page Monday.

The club, which will be located two doors down from the WWL building, will be a restaurant, bar, and event space with a “big, beautiful courtyard,” according to the club.

The building is a Greek Revival-style American townhouse and was constructed in 1856. The Vieux Carre Commission rated the building “green,” which means it has local architectural or historical significance.

New Orleans moves into ‘Phase 3.2’ on Oct. 17; more French Quarter bars reopen for to-go drinks

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Thursday announced that the city will move into it’s fourth step, or “Phase 3.2,” of easing COVID-19 related restrictions on businesses Saturday.

Under the new rules, indoor and outdoor live music venues can open, but must obtain a permit from the city; fairs and festivals can take place; and second line parades are allowed.

Additionally, outdoor bar seating will be allowed to increase. Masks and social distancing rules are still in place.

Alcohol sales—including at bars, restaurants, entertainment venues and package stores in some parts of the city—are restricted between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.

More French Quarter bars have reopened for to-go drinks, however, including Erin Rose, located at 811 Conti St.; Molly’s Irish Pub, located at 732 Toulouse St.; The Abbey Bar, located at 1123 Decatur St.; Golden Lantern Bar, located at 1239 Royal St.; The Chart Room, located at 300 Chartres St.; and many more.

Prytania Theatre coming to Canal Place Nov. 6

An Uptown cinema is scheduled to open in a French Quarter shopping mall next month.

Prytania Theatre, located at 5339 Prytania St., confirmed Thursday that it will be opening a second location at Canal Place on Nov. 6.

Local news organizations first reported the news on Thursday.

Opening a little more than 100 years ago, Prytania Theatre is the “longest continually operating” movie theater in the South and operated by the Brunet family for more than 25 years, according to its website.
