NOPD investigates stabbing that injured man on Decatur Street

A man sustained a stabbing injury following a Wednesday morning altercation with an unknown female on Decatur Street, according to New Orleans Police.

Officers were dispatched at about 1:02 a.m. to the 300 block of Decatur Street, where they located an adult male with a stab wound, according to the NOPD.

Through an investigation, NOPD officials said they determined the male victim was involved with an unknown Black female, who stabbed the male and fled the location.

The male victim, who was not identified, was transported to a local hospital via EMS. Information on his condition as of Wednesday afternoon was not provided.

No arrests were made and no suspects were identified, and the investigation remains active and ongoing, according to the NOPD.

NOPD: man holding knife sought after French Market cutting incident

NOPD officials are seeking an unidentified man as a person of interesting a cutting incident Sunday at the French market.

New Orleans Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man who they say is a person of interest in a cutting incident that occurred Sunday at French and was seen running away from the scene

The incident reported at 11:45 p.m., after an aggravated battery by cutting occurred at the French Market, according to NOPD logs.

An initial investigation revealed that a man (pictured above) was observed with a knife in his hand and fleeing the scene, according to the NOPD, adding that the individual is not wanted on suspicion of the alleged crime.

Officials said that detectives believe he may have been involved in the incident or have information pertaining to the investigation.

New Orleans Police increase neutral ground parking enforcement near French Quarter

Parking enforcement has increased along several neutral ground areas near the French Quarter, where New Orleans Police said drivers are parking illegally after heavy rains.

Eighth District police officers are working with city officials from the Department of Public Works’ Parking Division to enforce parking along neutral areas that also include the Central Business and Warehouse district areas.

During heavy rains, the city approves drivers parking on the neutral grounds to avoid low-lying areas that are prone to flooding, although vehicles must be removed to a legal parking location after the approval is lifted.

But drivers have been leaving their vehicles on the neutral grounds and in some residential areas after parking restriction is reinstated, leading to complaints and prompting enforcement, according to New Orleans Police.

Hundreds of citations were issued from July 2 to July 10.

The official breakdown from the New Orleans Police, which also includes 23 vehicles immobilized with boots due to unpaid fines: 90 citations on July 2, 136 on July 3, 125 on July 9 and 143 on July 10.

UPDATE: Female injured in shooting near Toulouse and Bourbon streets

A female was injured in a shooting near the intersection of Toulouse and Bourbon streets on Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred at about 4:30 a.m., according to New Orleans Police. Several gunshots were heard near the intersection.

The injured female was transported to a nearby hospital via private conveyance, according to New Orleans Police.

Police are investigating the shooting. No suspects were identified or arrested.

St. Mark’s church to hold meet-and-greet with NOPD 8th District Capt. Jeff Walls July 9

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church is hosting a meet-and-greet with New Orleans Police Captain Jeff Walls, who assumed command of the Eighth District station in the French Quarter last month.

The meet-and-greet will start 6 p.m. at St. Mark’s located at 1130 N. Rampart Street on July 9.

Walls took command on June 18 when former Captain Anthony Caprera retired after 37 years of service with the NOPD. Caprera had served as the Eighth District commander since May 2020.

Walls commanded the Second District before transferring. Lt. Eric Gillard, who was second-in-command under Walls, was promoted to captain and assumed command of the Second District.

Previously, Walls was the commander of the NOPD’s Third District, oversaw the Sixth District’s homicide unit and was also the Eighth District commander once before.

He joined the department in 1997 and over is career, Walls has received several letters of commendation, a medal of achievement and two medals of commendation

Walls earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Bishop State Community College in Alabama, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Loyola University and a master’s degree in homeland security from Tulane University.
