St. Mark’s church to hold meet-and-greet with NOPD 8th District Capt. Jeff Walls July 9

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church is hosting a meet-and-greet with New Orleans Police Captain Jeff Walls, who assumed command of the Eighth District station in the French Quarter last month.

The meet-and-greet will start 6 p.m. at St. Mark’s located at 1130 N. Rampart Street on July 9.

Walls took command on June 18 when former Captain Anthony Caprera retired after 37 years of service with the NOPD. Caprera had served as the Eighth District commander since May 2020.

Walls commanded the Second District before transferring. Lt. Eric Gillard, who was second-in-command under Walls, was promoted to captain and assumed command of the Second District.

Previously, Walls was the commander of the NOPD’s Third District, oversaw the Sixth District’s homicide unit and was also the Eighth District commander once before.

He joined the department in 1997 and over is career, Walls has received several letters of commendation, a medal of achievement and two medals of commendation

Walls earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Bishop State Community College in Alabama, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Loyola University and a master’s degree in homeland security from Tulane University.
