The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) said it arrested a man for allegedly carrying an illegal concealed handgun on Bourbon Street on August 11.
According to the NOPD, city police officers and Louisiana state troopers were patrolling the 500 block of Bourbon Street at about 12:27 a.m. when they stopped 27-year-old Devante Ray, who was carrying a concealed Glock Model 22 .40-caliber handgun. The firearm was loaded with 15 bullets, according to the NOPD.
Ray was taken to NOPD’s Eighth District police station on Royal Street and transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center where he was booked with one count of illegal carrying of a firearm.

Construction of Bourbon Street is slated to resume on August 12 starting at St. Ann Street.
According to an announcement by New Orleans, daily intermittent road closures will occur at St. Ann at the 800 block of Dauphine and Bourbon streets starting at 8 a.m. until sunset to accommodate pre-construction activities for the Bourbon Phase 2 project.
It’s the latest round of the Bourbon Street renovation project, which began in the 100 block in April 2017. It’s the first major reconstruction of Bourbon Street in at least 90 years.
The block will be open to pedestrian traffic only, however the intersections of Dauphine and Bourbon at St. Ann will be open to vehicular traffic–meaning that you’ll still be able to cross Dauphine and Bourbon streets on St. Ann at night.
The 800 block itself, however, will be fenced off and cluttered with construction equipment. Bars such as The Bourbon Pub and Oz New Orleans will be affected.
Additionally, the intersection of Dumaine and Bourbon and approximately forty feet into the 900 block of Bourbon are also closed to vehicular traffic as crews work to fully reconstruct the road. The intersection and 900 block will reopen next weekend if weather allows, according to the city.
The work being done includes Entergy crews conducting utility upgrades on Monday. Hard Rock Construction, the company hired to do the job, will also begin exploratory trenching activity that’s expected to take about three days.
Work on the new sewer, water, and drainage system for this block is anticipated to begin in October, according to the city.
Construction will halt and equipment will be cleared, including fencing, from the site and trenches will get filled in once Southern Decadence festival begins on August 28, but work will resume on September 3.
According to a report by WWL-TV in August 2017, the project was originally contracted for a cost of under $3.9 million, but is expected to cost millions more. The city’s new estimated cost has reached $9.5 million.
The city is roughly 70 percent finished with the project. New “upsized” drainage, a better sewer system, new sidewalks, upgraded lighting and security, and a smoother pavement have been installed along various sections of Bourbon Street, according to the city.
The NOPD says a woman is wanted after punching a cook, then firing a gun inside a Bourbon Street restaurant after becoming upset with her food order on July 28.
A woman reportedly upset by the quality of her food fired a handgun inside a Bourbon Street restaurant on July 28, according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
After becoming irate, according to the NOPD, the unknown black female punched a cook several times inside a restaurant in the 400 block of Bourbon Street, according to the NOPD. The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m.
The cook stopped the fight and escorted the female out of the restaurant. The woman returned to the restaurant and pulled a handgun out of her purse, according to the NOPD, pointing it at the cook while demanding a refund.
After the woman was told to leave, according to the NOPD, she allegedly fired a shot into the back wall of the restaurant and disappeared into the crowd on Bourbon Street.

Several more alleged crimes were reported in the French Quarter between July 19 and July 27, according to local news media and the NOPD.
On July 19, the NOPD reported an alleged simple robbery that occurred at approximately 4:07 a.m. in the 900 block of St. Ann Street.

Then on July 26, the NOPD reported an alleged shoplifting incident in the 400 block of North Peters Street. A picture of the suspect (shown above) was released by the NOPD on July 30.
On morning of July 27, according to nola.com, a 43-year-old man was stabbed by an unknown man following an argument near the intersection of St. Peter and Decatur streets by Jackson Square.
The verbal altercation happened at approximately 5:30 a.m. then a man pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times, nola.com reported. According to the newspaper, the man was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries weren’t immediately known.

A man was deprived of one $15,000 black Rolex watch and roughly $2,000 on June 12 after meeting an unidentified woman on Bourbon Street, according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
Shortly after the encounter, according to the NOPD, both the man and woman went to his hotel in the 100 block of Barrone Street. The woman left the hotel alone and later the victim noticed his watch and cash missing, according to the NOPD, which noted that the incident was reported at approximately 4:40 a.m.
The NOPD released a photograph (pictured above) of the suspect on July 5.

New Orleans Police are seeking assistance in locating a man who was reported missing on Tuesday.
Michael Jerome Johnson, 39, was last seen at about 2 a.m. on July 2 at an unknown location on Bourbon Street, according to New Orleans Police.
Johnson is described as a 5 feet 2 inches and approximately 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, brown camouflage shorts and green shoes.
