A juvenile was arrested in connection a Bourbon Street shooting that injured two women on Nov. 6, according to New Orleans Police on Thursday.

The NOPD said the shooting occurred at about 12:10 a.m. in the 500 block of Bourbon Street that injured two women, ages 28 and 54.

Detectives said they were able to obtain video of the alleged shooter. Through an investigation and after receiving tips from Crime Stoppers, Eighth District officials identified the juvenile suspect, who was not identified, according to the NOPD.

With the assistance of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, NOPD officials said they arrested the juvenile, who is facing one charge each of aggravated second degree battery and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Advocates say balcony-like structure doesn’t belong on ‘rare’ Bourbon Street building.

Members of the Vieux Carre Property Owners, Residents and Associates plan to attend a Nov. 17 New Orleans City Council meeting to oppose a proposal to install a balcony-like structure on a “rare” Bourbon Street building.

The VCPORA said it opposes a plan to build a gallery on the second floor of Fat Catz nightclub, located at 440 Bourbon St. because it will damage the historic character of the building.

The building is rated “green” by the Vieux Carre Commission, meaning it has local historical importance. A VCC staff report in July noted the building’s entire structure is “historic and of significant age.” The report noted that the millwork and masonry visible along Bourbon, St. Louis, Royal and Conti streets are typical of the 19th century. VCC officials previously denied the proposal but it was appealed by Mouton Long Turner Architects on Sept. 14.

“This green-rated structure, constructed in 1819 as part of the Pigneguy’s Stables, is a particularly rare Entresol building,” according to VCPORA. “A rare architectural feature at 440 Bourbon Street needs to be protected!”

The City Council is scheduled to hear the appeal during its Nov. 17 meeting. The meeting starts at 10 a.m and will be held at the City Hall building at 1300 Perdido St., and streamed online.

NOPD arrested man on suspicion of animal cruelty after striking police horses

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty last month after he allegedly struck the rear ends of two New Orleans Police horses on Bourbon Street

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. Oct. 31 in the 400 block of Bourbon Street when a man, identified as Robert Agee, struck two police horses on their rear ends as mounted unit officers were providing coverage for the Halloween holiday, according to the NOPD.

Police said Agee walked up behind female police horse “Sky” ridden by NOPD officer Michael Dewey and struck her “hard” on the rear-end, causing the horse to rear-up, or stand up on its hind legs.

Agee then struck a second horse named “Dude” on the rear-end, causing the horse to rear-up, according to the NOPD.

Officials said an NOPD police sergeant observed Agee and used his horse “Trouble” to detain him. Agee was arrested shortly afterward on suspicion of two counts of animal cruelty.

Collins was subsequently arrested and booked into Orleans Parish Justice Center.

NOPD arrests man after locating loaded ‘ghost gun’ near Bourbon, Conti streets

New Orleans Police said they arrested a man on suspicion of illegally carrying a “ghost gun” in his waistband near the intersection of Bourbon and Conti streets on Halloween night.

Officers stationed near the intersection on Oct. 31 observed Eric Dwayne Davis Jr. with the gun in his waistband, the NOPD said.

Following his arrest, the NOPD said the gun in his waistband was loaded with a 30-round extended magazine and with an additional round in the chamber.

Police referred to the firearm as a ghost gun because it did not contain a serial number.
