River-bound Canal Street intersections near Hard Rock Hotel reopen more than a year after building’s collapse

River-bound Canal Street intersections near the Hard Rock Hotel collapse site have reopened to vehicular traffic.

The intersections of Elk Place to Burgundy Street along Canal Street driving towards the Mississippi River reopened at 4:30 pm. Friday, according to city officials. That means you can drive the entire length of Canal Street to the river without blocked intersections.

Additionally, South Rampart Street opened in both directions.

The lake-bound side of Canal Street between Basin and Burgundy streets will remain closed as the rest of the building continues to be demolished, according to officials.

In addition, the portion of North Rampart Street between Canal and Bienville streets is closed due to demolition.

No restorations were made to streetcar service impacted by the Hard Rock collapse, officials said.
