NOPD: Tennessee man wanted for pointing gun at couple, assaulting female on Burgundy Street

An arrest warrant was obtained for a Tennessee man who pointed a gun at a couple and striking a woman along Burgundy Street on Friday, according to New Orleans Police on Wednesday.

The incident was reported shortly after 5 a.m. in the 400 block of Burgundy Street, where 47-year-old Thomas Allan Cory pointed a gun at a male and female victim, and threatened to shoot them, according to NOPD.

Police officials said Cory then struck the female victim in her face, causing her to fall on the ground and sustain a head injury, which required hospitalization.

Through an investigation, police identified Cory, who is believed to be a resident of Hampshire, Tenn. An arrest warrant was obtained for Cory on two counts, including aggravated assault with a firearm and second-degree aggravated battery, according to NOPD.

NOPD: Bourbon Street bartender killed by stray bullet while at work; woman arrested

A woman was arrested Sunday on suspicion of manslaughter after she fired a gun outside a Bourbon Street club and the stray bullet struck a male bartender in the chest as he worked, killing him, according to New Orleans Police.

Eighth District police officers responded to a call for an aggravated battery by shooting at the bar in the 700 block of Bourbon Street at about 2:05 a.m. Upon arrival, they located the bartender who sustained a gunshot wound and was declared dead at the scene, according to the NOPD.

The name of the man who was killed was not immediately released by investigators until family was notified first, although colleagues and friends in the French Quarter identified him as 46-year-old bartender at Cat’s Meow nightclub.

The Quarter Rat is declining to identify the bartender until his name is officially released. Update [3/23/22, 6:53 p.m.]: the bartender was Spencer Hudson, whose cause of death was identified as a gunshot wound, according to the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.

A 24-year-old female identified as Daphney Jackson was arrested by homicide detectives a short time after the shooting and booked into Orleans Parish Justice Center on suspicion of three charges, including discharging a gun during a violent crime and obstruction of justice, records show.

The shooting is under investigation by homicide detectives, according to NOPD.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notifying family.

Woman arrested, accused of shooting man from behind on Canal Street after altercation

A 25-year-old woman was arrested last week after shooting a man from behind on Canal Street following an earlier altercation that took place in Exchange Place alley, according to New Orleans Police on Wednesday.

Police arrested Boderrick (pronounced like “Bo Derek”) Ford on March 9, three days after the March 6 shooting that injured a male victim in the 600 block of Canal Street, according to Lt. Andrew Palumbo.

Palumbo said the altercation began after Ford and the male victim “bumped each other” in Exchange Place alley, and “a little bit of an argument” ensued.

Ford allegedly shot the victim one time from behind as he walked away. Logs show the shooting was reported at 7:52 p.m. near the intersection of Canal Street and Exchange Place.

Ford fled the scene with her boyfriend, identified as 28-year-old Jaleel Thompson, who helped remove the gun she used in the shooting, according to Palumbo, adding that he is still wanted by the NOPD.

Palumbo said that when Ford was arrested, she confessed to the shooting and also provided the firearm used in the incident to investigators.

Ford was charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. She made her first appearance before a magistrate March 9, and was listed with a bond amount of $15,000, according to records.

In addition, Ford was not listed under online Orleans Parish jail custody records as of Thursday.

$7,500 reward offered in Café Negril worker’s killing

Employees and friends of a Frenchmen Street bar worker have raised several thousands of dollars towards a reward offered in finding the person responsible for her death after she was found stabbed inside her Bywater apartment in December.

Café Negril employees have raised $5,000 toward the reward, increasing it to a total of $7,500 offered in the death of 26-year-old Taylore Jones, who died on Dec. 21 after she was stabbed in her apartment located in the 700 block of Lesseps Street, according to a March 8 Crimestoppers press release.

The additional money was raised through a GoFundMe account established by the group, with the reward expiring on March 7, 2024.

Anyone with information provided directly to Crimestoppers, and leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual connected to Jones’ death, is eligible for the reward, according to organization.

Jones, a Boston native, was discovered stabbed multiple times by her roommate in the early hours of Dec. 21 and later died from her injuries, according to a fellow employee.

Jones, who was also a musician, was known to get around the area on her skateboard.

No suspects have been arrested or identified and the incident is under investigation. New Orleans Police on Jan. 7 released a video (seen below) of a possible person of interest who was seen in the immediate area before and after the stabbing.

4 arrested, 4 handguns seized in separate Bourbon Street incidents

New Orleans Police arrested four people on suspicion of guns and drugs charges in separate incidents along Bourbon Street last month.

In addition to the arrests, New Orleans Police seized handguns in connection to four incidents between July 21 and July 28.

The first incident occurred on July 21, when New Orleans Police officers arrested Joe L. Jones on suspicion of aggravated assault in the 700 block Bourbon Street.

The assault allegedly occurred at at earlier data near the intersection of St. Ann and Decatur streets. When Jones was arrested, he was in possession of marijuana and a .38 caliber handgun, according to New Orleans Police.

The second incident occurred in the 200 block of Bourbon Street on July 24, when Andrew Wilson, of Alabama, was allegedly in possession of a 9-millimeter handgun and powdered cocaine.

The third incident occurred on July 25 in the 200 block of Bourbon Street, where Calvin Ingram, of Alabama, was arrested after he entered an alcoholic beverage operator-licensed establishment with a loaded Glock 43, or a 9-millieter handgun, according to New Orleans Police. Ingram was allegedly in possession of marijuana when was arrested.

Then on July 28, in the 500 block of Bourbon St., officers arrested Jody Allemand, of Marrero, after he entered an alcoholic-beverage licensed establishment and dropped a loaded Glock 9-millimeter handgun on the floor, according to New Orleans Police.
