Cleaning crew member arrested on suspicion of shooting co-worker near Gov. Nicholls, Decatur streets

A man hired as part of a cleaning crew team was arrested Friday and accused of shooting his co-worker after firing a gun at an unknown person near the intersection of Gov. Nicholls and Decatur streets on May 4, according to booking records.

Joshua Bass, 45, was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center at 9:46 a.m. and charged with three counts, including negligent firing, illegal use of a weapon and obstruction of justice, records show. His bail was listed at $65,000.

New Orleans Police said the shooting was reported at 5:32 a.m. near the intersection and that the victim arrived via private vehicle at a nearby hospital a short time later with a gunshot injury.

Through an investigation, Eighth District detectives determined that the victim was a member of a cleaning crew contracted to pressure wash the area and that Bass negligently shot the victim while firing his gun at an unknown person, according to the NOPD.

After identifying Bass, NOPD detectives issued a warrant for his arrest.
