A section of Canal Street that faces the French Quarter is temporarily closed to vehicular traffic starting on Monday until March 9 in order to facilitate a series of crane operations.
The portions of Canal Street that are closed include the 500 and 600 blocks, in between Royal and Decatur Streets, along the side of the street that heads in the direction of Lake Pontchartrain, according to New Orleans officials, adding that the closure is necessary to use the cranes to replace cooling towers atop the Marriott Hotel located at 555 Canal St.
Commuters are advised to use caution when driving, bicycling or walking near the area.
Lane closure signage will be in place throughout the process on the lake-bound side of Canal Street.
Two-way traffic operations will be in place on the river-bound side of Canal Street to accommodate vehicular traffic throughout the closure.
