Crews extinguished a fire that broke out at a bar near the intersection of Bourbon and Orleans streets early Tuesday morning, officials said.
The incident was reported at about 2:44 a.m., when smoke was seen coming from the building at 720 Bourbon St., according to New Orleans Fire officials.
Initial fire crews arrived about five minutes later and located the fire between the second and third floors of the wood-framed building, and throughout the attic. After evaluating the size of the fire, crews immediately requested more units shortly after 3 a.m., officials said.
The bar located at the intersection is Jessica’s Quarter Haus, which opened last summer.
NOFD officials said there was difficulty in accessing the fire, prompting a call for a third-alarm, or a request for more personnel and equipment, at about 3:17 a.m. More than an hour after the incident was called, at about 4:02 a.m., crews brought the fire under control, according to the NOFD
In total, the NOFD deployed 20 units with 52 personnel to the fire, officials said. Additionally, Entergy electric utility workers were on scene to assist firefighters.
One firefighter sustained injuries to his hand and was treated on scene by New Orleans Emergency Medical Service personnel, according to the NOFD.
Crews remained on scene fore fire watch as an extra precaution until further notice, the NOFD said, adding that the fire is under investigation to determine its cause.
