A lottery is slated for April 9 to award permits required by individuals who sell art in Jackson Square, city officials announced on Tuesday.

The New Orleans Bureau of Revenue will conduct the lottery for new “Artist A” permits at 10 a.m. in Room 1W15 at City Hall, located at 1300 Perdido St.

The lottery is only open to qualified applicants due to distancing requirements, and candidates should enter at the Perdido Street entrance, officials said.

City code requires people who sell art on or around Jackson Square to obtain an occupational license and mayoralty permit from the Department of Finance, Bureau of Revenue.

Qualified applicants include those who have a current Pirates Alley “Artist B” permit or have an application on file for a Jackson Square permit on or before Feb. 28, 2022.

Those who have met the qualifications and are interested in the lottery must apply in-person to the Bureau of Revenue’s office, or room 1W15 at City Hall, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from March 28 to April 1.

Additionally, applicants are required to bring a valid photo ID and Pirates Alley permit holders who want an upgrade to a Jackson Square permit must present their current “Artist B” permits.

Those with questions regarding the lottery are asked to contact Todd Ecker at tmecker@nola.gov or Wendell McCall at wemccall@nola.gov.
