Woman arrested in connection to Carondelet Street shooting

A woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of an aggravated battery charge in connection to a Friday shooting that injured another woman in the Central Business District.

A physical altercation occurred shortly before the shooting, which was reported shortly before midnight in the 100 block of Carondelet Street, according to New Orleans Police.

Upon arriving, officers located a woman who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

After the shooting, the Simmons fled the scene in a burgundy older model Nissan Altima, according to New Orleans Police.

Through an investigation, Eighth District detectives identified 31-year-old Sully Simmons as the shooter and issued a warrant for her arrest, according to New Orleans Police.

Simmons turned herself into police Jan. 11 and booked into Orleans Parish Justice Center on a charge of aggravated second-degree battery. Records show she posted bond on Tuesday.
