Three people were killed and nine were injured, including a 14-year-old male near the French Quarter, during a July 4 weekend marked by several incidents of gun violence across the city, according to New Orleans Police.
The teenager was shot in the first block of Canal Street at about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, police said, although the incident was originally reported near Bienville and Decatur streets.
He allegedly told police that he was fighting with unknown suspects when he heard two gunshots go off and realized he suffered multiple wounds.
He was taken to a local hospital via ambulance, according to police.

The weekend violence included two triple shootings on Saturday: one in the 8400 block of South I-10 Service Road shortly after 3:30 p.m., which killed a 41-year-old man; and in the 500 block of North Carrollton Avenue shortly before 11 p.m., injuring a 25-year-old man who was chased and shot, and two men, ages 25 and 26, who were shot in a crossfire of bullets, according to police.
Other incidents included:
Two juvenile girls shot in the 3100 block of St. Claude Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday;
A 30-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the foot while walking in the 1300 block of Saratoga Street shortly before 11:45 p.m. on Saturday;
A 35-year-old man who was fatally shot in the neck in his car in Algiers Sunday morning, according to police, who found the man still alive about 3 a.m. near General DeGaulle and Westbend Parkway, although he later died after arriving at a local hospital.
A 30-year-old man who was shot and killed in the 7700 block of West Laverne Street shortly before 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to the New Orleans Police, adding he was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
