Public help sought in cell phone snatching incident on Canal Street

New Orleans Police are requesting public assistance with identifying and locating a man sought in connection to a simple robbery incident that occurred Friday on Canal Street.

The incident was reported at about 8:19 p.m. after the man, pictured above, was allegedly captured on a surveillance camera snatching a cell phone from a female victim’s hands in an elevator of a building located in the 500 block of Canal Street, according to New Orleans Police. The man fled the location after the incident.

The man is described as a Black male standing 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt, black baseball cap and dark-colored track pants with white stripes, according to New Orleans Police.

NOPD foot patrol detectives arrest man accused of selling cannabis edibles on Bourbon Street

A 20-year-old man is accused of drug possession after New Orleans Police say they observed him selling cannabis-infused edibles on Bourbon Street last week.

Josaiha Sanders was arrested by foot patrol detectives on June 24 after they observed him selling cannabis-infused edibles in the 700 block of Bourbon Street, according to New Orleans Police.

Eighth District detectives were conducting patrols in the French Quarter when they allegedly watched Sanders selling the edibles at about 11 p.m..

Detectives detained Sanders and, after preliminary testing, verified that the products in his possession contained tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, according to New Orleans Police.

Sanders was arrested on suspicion of drug possession with intent to distribute.

After Sanders was arrested, detectives confiscated 58 pre-packaged cannabis edibles, several “servings” of raw cannabis and cash, according to New Orleans Police.

Sanders’ arrest came after New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno introduced an ordinance on May 20 that would “decriminalize,” or not require an arrest for someone possessing 14 grams of marijuana or less.

The ordinance was unanimously approved by the Council’s Criminal Justice Committee Tuesday and is included on the Council’s consent agenda for their next meeting on Thursday. Votes for items included on the consent agenda do not require discussion or debate and are considered routine procedures.

Woman sought in connection to armed robbery on North Rampart Street

New Orleans Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a woman accused of an armed robbery on North Rampart Street last month.

Detectives identified Deanna Lynd, 43, who allegedly used a gun to commit an armed robbery in the 500 block of North Rampart Street shortly after 5:30 p.m. on May 24, according to New Orleans Police.

New Orleans Police investigating shooting death of male on Dauphine Street

A male was shot and killed on Dauphine Street in the French Quarter Thursday night, according to New Orleans Police.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 500 block of Dauphine Street shortly after 7 p.m. and, upon arrival, located an male who sustained a gunshot wound, according to the NOPD.

The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify any suspects and a motive, according to the NOPD.

No additional details of the incident were provide.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family, according to the NOPD.

Arrest made in Bourbon Street shooting that injured 5 people; 2nd suspect identified

A man was arrested on multiple warrants Wednesday and a second suspect was identified in connection to a shooting on Bourbon Street that injured five people last month.

Darran Boykins, 26, pictured left, was located and arrested in Kenner without incident on suspicion of five counts of aggravated battery from the shooting that occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the 300 block of Bourbon Street, according to New Orleans Police.

The arrest was conducted by New Orleans Police’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and U.S. Marshals, with assistance from the Kenner Police Department.

Boykins was wanted as a suspect in three additional incidents since March, according to New Orleans Police, including a March 20 aggravated assault incident in the 1700 block of Tonti Street on March 20, an assault and kidnapping incident with a firearm in the 1500 block of Numa Street on March 25 and a shooting in the 2100 block of Jackson Avenue on April 24.

Boykins was booked into Orleans Parish Justice Center on suspicion of several charges, including five counts of aggravated battery and a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Dorrell Boykins who, though an investigation, police identified as a second suspect in the April 25 Bourbon Street shooting.
